Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw was named Monday as the National League Pitcher of the Month for July. No surprise there. Kershaw, who also earned the title after throwing his first career no-hitter in June, had a 1.07 ERA in five July starts with 43 strikeouts in 42 innings to post a 4-0 record against Colorado, San Diego, San Francisco and Atlanta. The 26-year-old went 4-1 in July with 38 strikeouts, a 1.05 WHIP and an ERA of 1.39. He carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his last start, a 4-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants. Chicago White Sox slugger Jose Abreu was named both the American League Player and Rookie of the Month again on Monday. The 27-year-old first baseman became the first player ever to win both awards in the same month twice in one season. He also did it in April, joining Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig as the only players ever to be named the top player after their first month in the majors. Abreu was also named Rookie of the Month in June and is the fourth player to win the award at least three times. He batted .374 in July with a .432 on-base percentage, six homers, 11 doubles and 19 RBI in 25 games. Oakland Athletics right-hander Sonny Gray was named the American League Pitcher of the Month on Monday after winning all five of his starts in July. Gray, 24, had a 1.03 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 35 innings, allowing just four combined earned runs in starts against Toronto, San Francisco, Seattle, Baltimore and Texas.
