DETROIT -- The Tigers have agreed to a one-year deal with shortstop Jose Iglesias that pays him at an annual rate of $1.65 million while in the major leagues and $1,237,500 while in the minors. Iglesias, who is not yet eligible for salary arbitration, received the maximum 20 per cent cut from his previous contract, an $8.5 million, four-year agreement. Iglesias finished second in last years AL Rookie of the Year vote, hitting .303 in 109 games with Boston and the Tigers. Detroit acquired him from the Red Sox in a three-way deal shortly before the trade deadline. Iglesias replaced Jhonny Peralta at shortstop for Detroit while Peralta was serving a drug suspension last season. Peralta signed with St. Louis during the off-season. Iglesias is part of an infield the Tigers hope will be improved defensively in 2014. Its truly a day when the city takes centre stage. But the 2013 Marathon put the eyes of the world on Boston for horrifying and nearly unthinkable reasons. At 2:49pm et on Apr. 15 - two hours after the winners had crossed the finish line but a time when more than 5,000 runners were still on the course – two blasts shook the city. Two bombs, placed 190 metres apart just before the finish line, went off killing three people and injuring nearly 300 others. It put Boston at a standstill, as the incident and the aftermath became a global focal point. A city-wide manhunt ensued to find the culprits, shutting down the city and postponing a game at TD Garden between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators.
